2 Day Course Objectives

  1. Clinical techniques to fabricate great dentures efficiently
  2. Learn how to effectively design digital dentures using Blue Sky Bio software
  3. Work with your patients to get the best possible rehabilitation of their mouth.

Requirements: Laptop that can run BlueSkyBio software and meshmixer. D3Tool (D3Denture) is recommended but not required for the course.

Analog Denture Design

  • Working with your denture lab
  • Deciding what material and tray type to use
  • Partial denture design
  • Effective bite rim design
  • Trial smile Evaluation
  • Processing decisions

Digital Denture Design

  • Proper scanning techniques
  • Review of common 3D printers
  • Creation of bite rims and custom trays using both BlueSkyBio and D3Tool
  • Material Selection for 3D printing
  • Processing of 3D printed dentures

Patient Management

  • Treatment planning with your patient
  • Tips and tricks for each step of the denture process
  • How to ensure the patient gets the right smile
  • Rehabilitation of the patient after denture delivery
  • Handling patient expectations

This program half live lecture and half self-participation, designated for 14 hours of CE credit by BlueSkyBio.AGD Codes: 670 (7 hours hands on and 7 hours lecture).

 

Dr. Russell Schafer, DDS

Dr. Russell Schafer is a general dentist who practices in New Orleans, LA and focuses on removable prosthodontics. He is the owner and dentist at NOLA Dentures and General Dentistry and has fix quite a few mouths using removable dentures. He has a love of the subject and enjoys teaching fellow dentists about dentures. Dr. Schafer also enjoys doing digital design and printing and is fluent with blue sky bio, meshmixer, and many other CAD programs. Also Dr. Schafer currently owns four 3D printers: Moonray S, NextDent 5100, Arfona R.Pod, and a Prusa i3.

Dr. Schafer is a native New Orleanian and is an engineer turned dentist. He got his Bachelors in Mechanical Engineering from Rice University in 2007 and his Masters of Mechanical Engineering from Rice in 2008. He worked in the petroleum industry before going onto dental school. He is a graduate of LSU Dental School 2013. He and his wife, Alison, a house with a Doberman named Lucas and a cat named Panda.
